Anyone who has a boat will recognize it immediately: black dots on the deck, on the fenders or even on the steering wheel. Not a bird, not oil… but spider poop. It looks dirty, sticks and if you wait too long, permanent stains can occur. Fortunately, it is solved with a Skrobber.
Why spider poop is so stubborn
Spider poop consists of excrement and remains of insects. It contains acids that can corrode gelcoat, plastic and even metal. Especially on white surfaces it is immediately noticeable and you often can't get it off with just water.
What you better not do
- Do not scrub with a scouring pad. This will damage the surface.
- Do not use aggressive cleaning agents. Bad for your boat and for the water.
How I approach it with Skrobber
I wet the sponge, without detergent, and gently rub the stains. You see them disappear immediately. Rinse with clean water and the surface is clean again, without scratches. The melamine sponge does all the work – you hardly have to use any force.
Prevention is better than cure
Spiders like to seek sheltered places on board. By cleaning regularly and possibly using a spider repellent (for example with peppermint oil), you prevent them from nesting. Less spiders, less poop.
Before & after says it all
